I plan on providing my recommendations for things like metronomes, tuners, and other essential gear here. I may also post things like etudes here from time to time. I am not being paid for any of these recommendations, these are only my personal preferences for the benefit of my students.
This is an app that I have used occasionally, unfortunately it is Android only. I am putting it here because it's what I use and I often use drum kits for practicing. I think that no matter what music you are playing, our brains are so used to hearing drum kits that it instantly makes you more aware of rhythm and helps you internalize it.
I have been using Mobius 2 looping software, which is a really amazing bit of software especially for being free. There are many other free options out there, and I want to become more acquainted with them before I make a recommendation of what other musicians should use. My goal is to develop a set of recomendations for anyone to quickly begin using looping in their daily practice. As soon as I have solidified my system I will post them here.
My focus for those recommendations will be ease of use and ease of learning, but what I use for my music will probably be slightly different. In case people are interested in what my set-up looks like, I will be sharing that here as well. I am currently using Ableton to host Mobius 2, with a clip-on mic on my bass. I have two KRK Rokit 7" speakers to play the loops. I use a Behringer FCB 1010 midi controller to control everything I do. This is likely to evolve over time, but there is so much you can do with this set-up, especially with the Ableton software, that I will probably be kept busy for a while.
